*Presale* Colombia Cafe Granja La Esperanza - Sudan Rume

from $32.00
Size:

Cost per 250mL serving - $ 2.87

This year, as every year, we are blown away by Granja La Esperanza’s natural sudan rume offering; of the thousands of coffees we taste in a year, it is consistently and reliably one of the most extra-ordinary—a truly unique lot, and one not to be missed. This year, we’re getting a mega-sweet cup overall, replete with bright, yellow, tropical pineapple, fluorescent-red, sweet maraschino cherry, and a perfumed jasmine florality to round off the cup.

This lot was grown at Finca Las Margaritas, one of several farms that make up Granja La Esperanza in the Valle del Cauca. Granja La Esperanza was founded in 1945, when Juan Antonio Herrera planted yellow bourbon, caturra, and red bourbon trees alongside already-established typica trees at what is now Finca Potosi in Valle del Cauca. One of Juan Antonio’s children, Rigoberto, decided in 2007 to transform the farms into the form they assume today, as sources of primarily rare and competition-grade offerings.

Sudan rume is an exceedingly rare ancient landrace varietal, native to the Boma Plateau of South Sudan—a region bordering several of Ethiopia’s most renowned coffee-producing regions. It is known for its dramatically low yield, which directly contributes to its extremely high quality potential, and higher relative production cost. Due to its near complete resistance to coffee berry disease and leaf rust, sudan rume is often included in genetically modified cultivars, such as SL28, milenio, and centroamericano. At present, sudan rume is only commercially cultivated in Colombia.

All orders will be roasted on Wednesday April 15th and shipped the following day. If your order contains more than one coffee, your entire order will be roasted and shipped together.

All coffee is sold whole-bean to reduce oxidation, and increase the longevity of volatile organic compounds.
